The NAACP held a virtual news conference to discuss the recent lawsuit filed against former President Donald Trump and his attorney, Rudy Giuliani, for inciting the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. They said the purpose of the lawsuit was not to repeat the impeachment trial of President Trump, but to hold those accountable for their incitement of violence against the U.S. Capitol and those who work inside, which resulted in the deaths of five people, including a U.S. Capitol Police officer. Representative Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and NAACP President Derrick Johnson were among those participating in the news conference. close
