In the fall of 1864, Union General Philip Sheridan sought information on the position and strength of Confederate forces in the Shenandoah Valley. Rebecca Wright, with the help of enslaved man Thomas Laws, passed Sheridan intelligence which informed his battle plan for what would be the Third Battle of Winchester. McCormick Civil War Institute director Jonathan Noyalas detailed Rebecca Wright’s involvement and how this action impacted the rest of her life. Shenandoah University hosted this program and provided the video. close
