House Armed Services Committee Chair Adam Smith (D-WA) discussed national security strategy at a virtual event hosted by the Brookings Institution. He talked about several issues, including procurement and acquisition, reestablishing global partnerships, artificial intelligence and technology, and the national security budget. Representative Smith also stressed that relations with China should not be the only “obsessive” focus of the U.S. strategic plan and U.S. military posture in the Middle East and Africa needs to accomplish strategic goals with fewer troop numbers. close
