Author Shirley Ann Higuchi talked about Setsuko’s Secret: Heart Mountain and the Legacy of the Japanese American Incarceration. The book chronicles Ms. Higuchi’s quest to uncover her mother’s history and understand the trauma that shaped an entire generation - as well as her own life. Heart Mountain Relocation Center in Wyoming was one of 10 sites around the country where the U.S. military forcibly moved about 110,000 Japanese Americans during World War II. Author Shirley Ann Higuchi’s knew her parents met there, but they rarely spoke about their experience. It was only after her mother became terminally ill that she learned of her mother’s secret work to help create a museum at Heart Mountain. The National World War II Museum in New Orleans hosted this discussion and provided the video. close
