Dr. Walensky said that as of March 17, 2021, more than 113 million doses of the vaccine had been administered, including 73 million people who had received at least one dose and 40 million who were fully vaccinated. Dr. Fauci told lawmakers the biggest challenge facing the U.S. in its pandemic response was “to stay ahead of the variants,” which might not be as susceptible to the current vaccines.
