The House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel held a hearing on how to change the Army’s Criminal Investigative Division after the 2009 mass shooting at the Fort Hood Army Base. In the first panel, members of the Fort Hood Independent Review Committee presented their findings and recommendations to change the Criminal Investigative Division. Among the findings in the report, they discussed the inexperience of investigators and a lack of investigative acumen, a need for resources and increased staffing, and the importance of working with local authorities. In the second panel, the heads of several military criminal investigative organizations discussed cooperation with local authorities, collaboration among various military branches, base safety, and an increase of civilian investigators. close
