A Metropolitan police officer was arrested and was a suspect in the kidnapping and murder. Several members called for tougher sentencing and enforcement laws for sexual harassment and sexual violence offenders. Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer pressed the prime minister on this issue, citing that 98.5 percent of reported rapes do not lead to prosecution, and several female members later talked about harassment cases that go unreported. The prime minister said that the death of Sarah Everard “triggered a reaction that is wholly justified” and that a cultural change on the treatment of women and girls was needed in the U.K. The prime minister also confirmed to members he would receive the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine, voicing support after some European countries suspended its use.
