Public health and law enforcement officials and community advocates testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on ways to reduce gun violence. The hearing was held in the wake of a mass shooting the previous week in Atlanta and the day prior in Boulder, Colorado, where 10 people were killed in a grocery store. The hearing focused on ways to improve the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) and implement other policies such as universal background checks, loophole closures, and waiting periods for firearm purchases. close
