Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg testified before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee on his department’s plans for updating the nation’s infrastructure. In his opening remarks, Secretary Buttigieg said “the infrastructure status quo is a threat” and emphasized the need to make a “generational investment” in transportation infrastructure. He also talked about the importance of creating resilient infrastructure and confronting inequities. Throughout the hearing, lawmakers questioned the secretary about transportation technologies, low-emission transit systems, aviation safety issues, high-speed rail funding, the Highway Trust Fund, and the permitting process for infrastructure projects. close
