Michelle Krowl is a Civil War and Reconstruction specialist with the Library of Congress Manuscript Division. She talked about the library’s collection and shared illustrated letters home from Union Army soldier-artist Charles Wellington Reed. She also showed samples from postwar left-handed penmanship contests for veterans whose right arms were amputated during the conflict.
