The Senate confirmed two nominations: Gary Gensler for chair of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Brenda Mallory as chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. Members also voted to advance legislation to combat hate crimes against Asian Americans. In addition, lawmakers unanimously passed S.Res.152 in honor of the memory of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William Frances “Billy” Evans “for his selfless acts of heroism on the grounds of United States Capitol on April 2, 2021,” and then adjourned under the provisions of the resolution as a further mark of respect to his memory. close
