Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) President and CEO Margaret Huang spoke about a rise in hate crimes and the growth of hate groups in the U.S. at the National Press Club. Ms. Huang talked about the SPLC’s findings released in its annual “Year in Hate and Extremism” report, which she said noted an increase of white extremist groups in the country. She also talked about how these extremist groups are recruiting new members and how they are funding their efforts. In addition, Ms. Huang spoke about a rise of violence against Asian Americans during the coronavirus pandemic and the importance of collecting data on these incidents to better understand and prevent them. close
