The House passed the rule for three bills: a District of Columbia statehood measure, a bill to provide legal counsel for anyone detained at the U.S. border, and legislation to try to address discrimination against foreign visitors. Within that rule was a motion to package 15 previously-debated suspension bills into one. Lawmakers then approved that single suspension bill containing the 15 others. Members also rejected Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) resolution to censure Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) for remarks she made over the preceding weekend in Minnesota about the Derek Chauvin trial for the death of George Floyd. close
