The Senate continued work on legislation to combat hate crimes against Asian Americans, and confirmed Vanita Gupta to be associate attorney general in a 51-49 vote. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) was the only Republican to vote “yes” with all Democrats on the nomination. Senators also passed a resolution honoring Walter Mondale, the former vice president and former Minnesota senator who died earlier in the week, and members then adjourned as a further mark of respect to him. close
