House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) held a briefing on the legislative agenda. She began with floor debate over statehood for the District of Columbia, saying the issue “is in her DNA.” The speaker showed a picture of her late father, who was a Maryland U.S. representative and mayor of Baltimore, meeting with Eleanor Roosevelt, both of whom had supported giving the District of Columbia statehood. She also discussed Earth Day, police reform, and negotiations with Republicans over a commission to investigate the January 6 Capitol attack. close
