This film explores the mineral and agricultural riches as well as the problems of poverty and poor transportation in South America, and argues that air travel can be a “bridge” linking the U.S. with neighbors to the south. Funded by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the film reflects President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s “Good Neighbor Policy,” which attempted to improve relations with Central and South America by emphasizing trade and cooperation rather than military force. The Bridge is part of the National Film Preservation Foundation’s online screening room. close
