The leading contenders for the Democratic nomination in the 2021 New York City mayoral race participated in a debate hosted by WNBC New York. It was the final scheduled debate ahead of the June 22 primary; early voting began June 12. Notable candidates include former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, former New York City Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia, civil rights attorney Maya Wiley, and former 2020 presidential candidate and entrepreneur Andrew Yang. They were asked about a range of issues impacting the city including the COVID-19 economic recovery, education policy, public safety, mental health, and affordable housing. close
