Author David Hamilton Golland talked about the role of oral history research for his book, A Terrible Thing to Waste: Arthur Fletcher and the Conundrum of the Black Republican. Arthur Fletcher was a government official who advised several presidents and headed the U.S. Civil Rights Commission in the 1990s. Mr. Golland described going through Arthur Fletcher’s papers and interviewing his surviving family members. This video was provided by the Society for History in the Federal Government. close
