Chiune Sugihara was a Japanese diplomat in Lithuania during World War II. Unbeknownst to his government, he issued hundreds of transfer visas to Jewish families trying to escape Nazi occupied Europe and the Soviet Union. Holocaust survivor Leo Melamed explained how his family escaped with the help of those visas and his mission to memorialize Chiune Sugihara’s legacy. close
