Republicans blocked an attempt to bring up S.1, the For the People Act, a Democratic bill on election and campaign finance reform. The vote was 50-50 along party lines, falling short of the 60 votes needed to begin debate. Vice President Harris presided during the vote and announced the final count. Members also confirmed Kiran Ahuja’s nomination for director of the White House Personnel Management Office, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote in favor of the motion. close
