Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell held a news conference to discuss monetary policy actions and the economy. He announced they would hold its benchmark interest rate near zero. In regards to COVID-19, Chair Powell said, “The effects of the pandemic on the economy have continued to diminish but risks to the economic outlook remain.” He went on to emphasize that “continued progress on vaccinations would support a return to more normal economic conditions.” In addition, reporters asked about rising inflation, the labor market, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the U.S. economy. close
