During a ceremony at White House, President Biden signed into law H.R 3325, a bill to award Congressional Gold Medals to the police officers who responded to the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. During his remarks, the president noted, “Not even during the Civil War did insurrectionists breach the Capitol of the United States of America, the citadel of our democracy. Not even then. But on January the 6, 2021, they did.” Vice President Kamala Harris, who had just left the U.S. Capitol prior to the attack on January 6, also made remarks. close
