The House took the first step in the budget reconciliation process by approving the Senate-passed $3.5 trillion budget resolution that congressional committees would use to draft legislation. Lawmakers also passed a bill named after the late Representative John Lewis (D-GA) that restores provisions of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Both bills passed along party lines, with all Democrats voting “aye” and all Republicans voting “no.” Additionally, members agreed to take up the $1.2 trillion Senate infrastructure package by September 27. close
