Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with reporters about the ongoing evacuation efforts in Afghanistan. He said the department estimates there are 6,000 Americans who wanted to leave and that 4,500 have already left the country. He also said that since August 14, more than 82,300 people, including those 4,500 American citizens, have been safely flown out of Kabul. Blinken indicated that there could be as many as 1,500 American citizens remaining in Afghanistan. close
