Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby and Major General Hank Taylor, with the Joint Staff, briefed reporters on ongoing evacuation efforts from Kabul, Afghanistan, following Thursday’s suicide bombing at the airport. Major General Taylor said that 13 U.S. service members were killed in the attack. He also reported that the wounded personnel were taken to Ramstein Air Base in Germany. He went on to provide an update on the number of evacuees, saying that in the past 24 hours, approximately 12,500 were flown out of Hamid Karzai Airport. Among them were 300 Americans, bringing the total number of American citizens to 5,100. Since the evacuation began, approximately 111,000 evacuees had been flown out. close
