Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards (D) held a news conference to discuss damage from Hurricane Ida as well as the state’s response to the storm. Governor Edwards called the hurricane a “catastrophic storm” and said it was one of the “strongest hurricanes that ever impacted the state.” He also confirmed one death and said he expected the number of deaths connected to the storm to “go up considerably over the next couple of days.” Regarding storm damage, the governor spoke about electrical outages that were impacting over 1.1 million homes and businesses and said his focus was on returning electricity to hospitals. close
