House Democratic Caucus Chair Hakeem Jeffries (NY) spoke to reporters following closed-door negotiations with rank-and-file Democrats on President Biden’s economic agenda. Representative Jeffries said Democratic leaders and the White House were waiting on moderate Democratic senators to indicate their “comfort level” with a top-line spending number before they can move forward with votes on a bipartisan $1.2 trillion dollar infrastructure spending bill and a $3.5 trillion dollar economic package. Representative Jeffries also talked about options for raising the debt limit after Senate Republicans blocked the party’s efforts to tie suspending the debt ceiling to a continuing resolution that would keep the government funded. close
