The Senate approved a bill to fund the federal government through December 3, 2021, and sent it to the House for consideration ahead of the midnight deadline to avert a government shutdown. Members confirmed Rohit Chopra’s nomination for Consumer Financial Protection Bureau director, with Vice President Kamala Harris presiding to provide the tiebreaking vote on limiting debate on the nomination. Senators later confirmed Tracy Stone-Manning’s nomination for director of the Bureau of Land Management, and voted to begin debate on the House-passed bil to suspend the debt ceiling until December 16, 2022. close
