President Clinton approached a microphone for the purpose of briefing the press on the U.S. policy toward Haiti in light of renewed violence by the military government. He stated that the U.S. will send six destroyers to patrol the waters off the coast of Haiti ensuring the embargo is enforced. Following an opening statement, the president took questions from reporters concerning the details of the operation. The U.S. action is one in the continuing effort to reinstate President Aristide as the freely elected leader of the country. close
