The House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol held a business hearing to vote on a report that recommends that Jeffrey Clark be held in contempt of Congress. During this meeting, committee members voted unanimously to hold him in contempt of Congress. Mr. Clark, a former Department of Justice official during the Trump administration, refused to answer questions during his deposition and failed to surrender documents to the committee. Members moved forward with the referral despite indications from Mr. Clark’s attorneys that he was willing to meet with the committee to assert his Fifth Amendment right. If the full House were to take up the contempt resolution, Mr. Clark would become the second person to face potential prosecution in relation to the January 6, 2021, investigation. close
