Michael Bolton, the inspector general of the U.S. Capitol Police, testified at a Senate Rules and Administration Committee hearing on the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. Mr. Bolton outlined changes the force had made to better protect and secure the Capitol. He argued that more needs to be done, including more training for officers and canine (K-9) units and addressing staffing shortages. Mr. Bolton estimated that about 200 officers had left the department since the attack. close
