U.S. Army Lieutenant General Michael Kurilla testified at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing for his confirmation to be the general and commander of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM). Several topics were discussed, including escalating tensions between Ukraine and Russia, negotiations with Iran, the U.S. troop withdrawal from Afghanistan, terrorist threats, cybersecurity and the use of artificial intelligence in the military, and mitigating civilian casualties during military operations. He also discussed the growing influence of China and Russia in the Middle East. At the time of this hearing, General Kurilla led the 18th Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. close
