During a news briefing, Pentagon Spokesperson John Kirby announced that former New York City mayor and 2020 presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg had been nominated by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to chair the Defense Innovation Board. The board provides recommendations for new innovative technologies and developmental strategies to the department. Mr. Kirby also took questions on topics including ongoing tensions between Ukraine and Russia, reports of a new Iranian ballistic missile system, and the investigation on the Afghanistan withdrawal. close
