The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace held a discussion about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s motives for the actions he has taken against Ukraine. Carnegie Moscow Center Director Dmitri Trenin spoke about President Putin’s most recent speech addressing Ukraine and the implications of the Russian president recognizing two rebel-held regions in eastern Ukraine. Mr. Trenin also spoke about President Putin’s relationships with the leaders of the U.S. and China and how those could impact his decisions moving forward. close
