Senate Session

The Senate voted to begin debate on a bill to increase science and technology research funding. The legislation is designed to assist the U.S. chipmaking industry better compete with China. Members also confirmed several judicial nominations: Julie Rubin, U.S. District Court for Maryland; Hector Gonzalez, U.S. District Court for Eastern New York; John Chun, U.S. District Court for Western Washington; Cristina Silva, U.S. District Court for Nevada; Anne Traum, U.S. District Court for Nevada; and Alison Nathan, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) attempted to schedule a vote to suspend normal trade relations with Russia; however, Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) objected. Lawmakers indicated that negotiations on the matter would continue off the floor. close
