The House of Representatives debated legislation that would legalize marijuana use and possession and also remove it from the list of federally-controlled substances. The bill would also expunge the records of people previously convicted on non-violent marijuana offenses. Judiciary Committee Chair Majority Leader Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) said the bill would address racial disparities in the U.S. Representative Cliff Bentz (R-OR) argued against the bill, saying it could bring a rise in more cartel and smuggling of marijuana into the country. close
