Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said Democrats want to “nullify the presence” of Justice Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court. He made these remarks on the Senate floor in response to calls for Justice Thomas to recuse himself from cases involving the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol because his wife texted then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows about overturning the 2020 election. Senator McConnell said Justice Thomas should “completely ignore all of this” and decide which cases to hear with “total independence and complete freedom.” close
