Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) announced he would vote against Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson’s Supreme Court nominations. He said she has a record of judicial activism, flawed sentencing on child pornography cases, and briefs in defending Guantanamo Bay cases accusing President Bush of being a war criminal. He said she is a person of good character and is respected by her peers. He also talked about Republican judicial nominees who Democrats blocked.
Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) then responded, saying Senator Graham “didn’t even get close.” He discussed Judge Jackson’s personal story and professional experience. He said Republican criticism of Judge Jackson’s child pornography sentencing are “outrageous,” and he read from some of her rulings in the cases. He said it is a “gross exaggeration” to say she called President Bush a war criminal. close
