Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced new fuel economy standards and touted them as a win for the people and innovation. The new rules will require by 2026 that an average vehicle get about 50 miles per gallon of gas. White House Climate Adviser Gina McCarthy and others from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were on hand for the announcement in Washington, D.C., at the Transportation Department headquarters. close
