The Birth of Freedom Mr. Nagorski discussed his new book, [The Birth of Freedom: Shaping

Lives and Societies in the New Eastern Europe], published by Simon

and Schuster. He is married to a Polish woman, and lived in Warsaw

for three years during the past 15 years. He described the changes in people’s lives in Poland, Hungary, the Czech

Republics and East Germany since the events of 1989. He said the political

changes affected the social fabric and the rise of private

entrepreneurship differently in each country. close
