Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Pat Toomey (R-PA) asked unanimous consent to consider the nominations of Jerome Powell to serve a second term as Federal Reserve Chair and Philip Jefferson to be a member of the Federal Reserve Board. He made the request shortly after Republicans blocked the nomination of Lisa Cook to be the first Black woman to serve as a member of the Federal Reserve Board. Senate Banking Committee Chair Sherrod Brown (D-OH) objected to Senator Toomey’s request and accused Republicans of trying to embarrass the nominee while two Democratic senators were absent due to COVID-19. The Senate was expected to vote on Lisa Cook’s nomination again at a time to be determined. close
