At issue in this conference is the extent of press freedom in Great Britain. Mr. Neil argues that there is no freedom of the press and that the government is able to censor the mass media. To illustrate this, Neil uses a personal example, that of his attempt to publish excerpts of a book on the British secret service, only to be challenged in court by the government. Neil also illustrates how the media in the United States operates under a less restrictive atmosphere than that of the British media. close
