Mr. Abbott, testifying at a House House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations hearing, said the company is committed to resolving the issues at its Michigan plant in order to reopen and produce formula as quickly as possible. In February 2022, Abbott was forced to close it Michigan facility after the Food and Drug Administration found unsanitary conditions at the plant, thus sparking the formula crisis. The company also issued a recall of its formula products after reports of babies becoming ill after consuming it. Executives with Gerber and the company that owns Mead Johnson Nutrition also testified on steps they are taking to help ease the shortage.
