House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other congressional Democrats announced at a news conference legislation to provide $28 million to the Food and Drug Administration to assist with a nationwide baby formula shortage. The two bills also address the supply and safety issues associated with the shortage and provide waivers during emergencies and supply chain disruptions. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-CT)

cited corporate malfeasance as a cause of the crisis, blaming “corporate greed and consolidation,” and saying that “Abbott Nutrition put profits and production over people.” Senior executives from three companies--Abbott, Gerber, and Reckitt--were expected to testify before a congressional committee. close
