General Christopher Cavoli testified at his Senate Armed Services Committee confirmation hearing on his nomination to become the next NATO supreme allied commander. Of NATO and the United States, General Cavoli in his opening testimony said, Wwe are in a time when unity in the alliance is of the greatest importance. Our allies will be our strength as we go forward." Topics included cybersecurity, U.S. and NATO strategy in the Black Sea, deterring Russian aggression, the importance of diplomacy, and countering China’s pacing challenge to the U.S. When asked about Finland and Sweden’s acceptance into the NATO alliance, General Cavoli said he looks forward to their inclusion, and that “each of those militaries brings quite a bit of capability and capacity to the alliance, from day one.” close
