The House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Communications and Technology convened a hearing with a panel of communications industry representatives and academics to examine potential changes Congress is considering to communications laws. Witnesses and committee members talked about topics including efforts to make affordable broadband services more widely available, the need to extend the FCC’s general spectrum auction authority for an additional 18 months, innovation and competition from China, and the federal Lifeline program that provides affordable cellular and broadband options for low-income communities. They also addressed digital abuse, which refers to the exploitation of technology to cause harm on a person from afar, often by way of harassment or stalking. close
