The U.S. Senate continued debate on S. 1607, the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1993, also known as the Crime Bill. Time was spent debating Senator Diane Feinstein’s (D-CA) amendment concerning hate crimes. The overall bill would provide $5.2 billion for 60,000 new police officers, funding for the construction of additional state prisons, as well as boot camps for juvenile offenders. close
