The House passed a Democratic bill intended to reduce gun violence in response to a recent spate of mass shootings. The legislation includes measures that would raise the age to buy a semi-automatic rifle from 18- to 21-years old, establish voluntary best practices for home gun storage, and ban the use of bump stocks for civilian use. Bump stocks are devices that allow a semi-automatic firearm to shoot more than one shot with a single pull of the trigger. The bill would next go to the Senate, where a bipartisan group of senators were negotiating their own set of gun measures. Members also approved nine suspension bills that were debated earlier in the week. close
