White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre previewed the Summit of the Americas being hosted in Los Angeles later that week. She spoke about Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s plans to not attend the event. President Obador said he would not attend due to the exclusion of leaders from Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela. Ms. Jean-Pierre explained, “We just don’t believe dictators should be invited. We don’t regret that, and the President will stand by his principle.” She also, addressed congressional discussion over gun legislation, the war in Ukraine and President Biden invoking the Defense Production Act to address the U.S. electric grid and clean energy. close
