Actor and gun-policy advocate Matthew McConaughey joined White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre for the Biden administration’s daily press briefing. Mr. McConaughey paid tribute to some victims of the recent mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas--where the actor was born--reading their names and talking about their lives, making an emotional plea for changes in gun laws. He also recommended solutions to gun violence, such as enacting background checks and “red flag” laws, as well as a minimum age requirement of 21 and extended waiting periods for purchases of assault rifles. Mr. McConaughey emphasized that such policies would not take away Second Amendment rights, but would instead protect them. After his remarks Press Secretary Jean-Pierre talked about President Biden’s policy agenda, including updates about the progress of gun legislation. close
